My Journey

I was born and raised in a high-control religious environment and made the decision to leave as a young adult.  This difficult choice led me to question every aspect of the belief system I had been raised in – in particular, whether it was playing a positive or a negative role in my life.

Through extensive research and personal therapy, I embarked on a journey of questioning, challenging and deconstructing a belief system that was not mine.  This experience ultimately led to me discovering my own values, building my own belief system and pursing a career through which I can support individuals who may be navigating similar challenges. I completed a Bachelor of Counselling and began working in the Domestic and Family Violence sector, where I continue to work today.

As both a survivor and a trained professional, I have a unique understanding of the journey of recovering from religious abuse and possess the tools to help individuals process and heal from their experiences, and regain control of their lives.

I am also passionate about supporting women in recovering from unhealthy or abusive relationships, including intimate partner and family violence.

No matter the circumstances, I believe that it is absolutely possible to achieve  positive personal growth and lead a thriving, fulsome life.  Let’s start your journey together!

Beginning Your Journey...

I know from personal experience that, after having left abusive cults or intimate relationships:

  • our sense of self-worth is low

  • we second-guess ourselves and blame ourselves for not having ‘seen the signs’ earlier

  • we find it hard, if not impossible, to stand up for ourselves, find our voice and assert our needs

Through therapy and engagement, we will work together to enable you to:

  • process your experiences and heal the wounded parts

  • feel empowered by thinking critically and recognising the tactics of coercive control

  • rebuild your sense of self, find connections and realise the values that reflect your authentic self

My practice is founded on Person Centred Therapy and is informed by a range of other recognised therapeutic methods, including Gestalt, Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Collectively, these therapeutic methods focus on building resilience, learning healthy coping strategies, exploring how to have a voice, developing boundary skills, mindset shift, exploring with curiosity and new perspectives on the life ahead.

I also offer case management, which is a collaborative process in which we will identify your needs, set goals and connect you with external resources and services that may be available to help you on Your Journey.
